Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring my dog?
You are welcome to bring your dog to Belsay. We have a range of activities available for you and your dog. On Saturday & Sunday we have a fun dog show open to everyone to enter. Find out more here.
We also have a dog agility ring; where you can have a go at dog agility with your own dogs.
Please ensure that all dogs are kept on short leads and under control at all times at the event; especially when you are on the cross country course and near the arenas. Please ensure you clear up after your dog and dispose of your rubbish in the bins provided across the course.
Ensure you do not leave dogs in vehicles at the event as they can become distressed. We will make every effort to locate the owner if this does happen but in some cases we may need to take action to free the dog.
Shopping
There are around 40 trade stands selling a range of products; a great place to get some shopping and buy some gifts. The list of trade stands will be displayed on the Shopping Village page a few weeks before the event. Most tradestands do have card payment available.
Food & Drink
There are numerous food and drinks stands across the site, serving everything from burgers and barista coffee to pizzas.
If you wish to bring a picnic to the event you are very welcome to do so – we ask that you clear up any rubbish and dispose of it in one of the bins across the site.
Programmes
Programmes are for sale when entering the car park or from The Event Office on the main show ground. There are also online versions available on our website during the event.
Rider Times & Scores
Start times and scores for competitors can be found on www.eventingscores.co.uk website. Our programme will also guide you through horse and rider sections, available to purchase on the show field from the secretaries tent.
Opening Times
The event runs from 8am-6pm all days of the Horse Trials, with cross country, dressage and show jumping taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For more detailed information on individual classes and sections please see the timetable which will be added to the site in the week leading up to the event.
Toilets
The parkland is mixed terrain and undulating so it is advisable to wear comfortable and sturdy footwear to the event, especially if you are planning to walk the course. It is worth preparing for all conditions and it is advisable to bring wellies or walking boots and waterproofs in case of wet weather.

Lost Property
Lost Property will be held at the Secretary’s tent sited on the main showground. If you find anything please hand it to a member of the event team or take it directly to the secretary’s tent.
We will hold any lost property for a couple of months following the event – please contact the Secretary at the event or the office on 01661 881206/ admin@belsayestate.com following the event to see if we have your lost items.
Getting to the event
By Car – For Satnavs please use NE20 0DX and follow the car parking signs that you will pick up on approach to the village of Belsay.
By Train – From Newcastle train station take the Metro to Callerton Station or to Newcastle Airport. From here it is a 15 minute taxi ride to Belsay Horse Trials.
By Bus – From Newcastle travel on the Otterburn or Jedburgh bus stopping at Belsay Arcade in Belsay Village from where you can walk up the main estate drive to the Horse Trials. Buses are not regular so please research bus times before you plan your trip.
How do I buy a ticket?
Tickets can be bought online through our website or simply just click here. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate. Please note early bird and and advance ticket offers can only be purchased online.
Do I have to pay for parking?
Parking is free.
Can I pay on the gate?
Yes Card and Cash Payments both accepted. No entry to the event will be permitted without full payment at the gate.
What if I forget my ticket?
If you forget to bring (or lose) your ticket you will be asked to pay the full on-gate ticket price, or be turned away. No refunds will be made for tickets bought to replace lost/forgotten tickets. Tickets are sent online, so check your emails (and junk!) for confirmation of purchase and your scannable ticket.
Refunds
Unfortunately, no refunds are due once tickets have been purchased.
Cash Points
There are no cash points available on the Showground. Please note that the mobile reception is not always great in the park and so some vendors may not be able to take card payments. We suggest you bring plenty of cash with you and /or a cheque book.

Emergency & First Aid
The Emergency services at the event include doctors, ambulances, vets and fence repair personnel. They have access to all parts of the site and can be quickly contacted through any steward, judge or official.
Accidents involving horses and competitors are well catered for and appropriate officials are constantly ready to report these as they occur and to call for the emergency services.
Emergencies not connected with the competition (e.g. in the catering tent) may be dealt with by the emergency services on site but outside emergency services (e.g. Fire Brigade) may be needed to.
Please contact the Secretary or Cross Country Control for assistance in any emergency.
Accessibility
Belsay Horse Trials is committed to ensuring that our event is as welcoming and accessible as possible. We have worked hard to provide clear access routes, dedicated viewing areas, accessible parking, improved signage, and friendly on-site support for visitors who may need assistance. Motorised mobility scooters will be available for hire during the event — please contact us in advance for further information. However, as this is an outdoor event set across varied natural terrain, some areas may be more challenging to navigate. We encourage visitors to plan ahead and speak to our team if they have specific accessibility needs — we are always happy to help. Our aim is for every guest to feel included and able to enjoy the excitement of the event in comfort and confidence.

Health & Safety
The Horse Trials Organisers, named in the programme, have overall responsibility for health and safety and appoint a Health & Safety steward, also named in the programme, to ensure that all appropriate health and safety legislation is complied with.
General Safety Information:
- All persons attending this event are encouraged to purchase a programme, which contains a map showing the different parts of the event and suitable viewing locations.
- All visitors are directed to use designated crossing points when on the cross country course. Please watch out for horses at all times and listen for warning whistles.
- Anyone requiring first aid should go to the Secretary’s tent. Only medical problems arising at the event will be treated.
- All dogs must be kept on short leads at all times.
- Spectators and competitors are advised to prepare for all weathers. Please wear sensible footwear and bring sun protection cream, a hat, light waterproofs and a coat.
- The use of motorbikes and all-terrain vehicles are banned except for authorised officials. Anyone found riding a motorbike or all-terrain vehicle without permission will be asked to leave the event.
- No skipping-out of lorries and trailers on the park field. All litter and dung must be taken home. Horses must not be left tied to lorries or unattended at any time.
- The organisers reserve the right to refuse admission to Belsay Horse Trials to any person or to withdraw permission at any time to remain at the event and shall not be required to give any reason for such action.
- The Organising Committee shall not be liable in respect of any loss or damage whatsoever arising from the abandonment or postponement of Belsay Horse Trials.
