2024 Abandonment
There is no denying that it has been incredibly tough, but we are focussing on the positives.
Sadly, we are not going to be able to create a replacement event this year. Belsay Horse Trials has so many ‘moving parts’ with so many officials, judges, contractors, volunteers etc, that it’s almost impossible to rebook everyone, let alone get all our competitors, trade stands and sponsors back on a date that works for all.
Refunds and Insurance: We have already refunded all of our competitors 100% of their entry fee. We are in also offering refunds to our trade stands and sponsors but many of them have been incredibly generous and are ‘rolling over’ to next year.
Thank you all for your support and understanding – we have received so many lovely messages– it really is heart-warming. Please, rest assured we will be back, bigger and better for 2025!
2025 Competition
We will be doing everything we can to give our competitors, sponsors, volunteers and visitors the most fabulous experience, generous prize money and some great entertainment.
The organisers will make the going their top priority and it is likely to be perfect. There are two water complexes and a mix of natural permanent obstacles and portables. This is an ideal viewing course for owners, trainers and family.
Our showjumping arena has state of the art sports drainage and our dressage arenas are sited away from the Main Arena and Cross Country course in a quiet area of the park. Our event is supported by live scoring.
Charity course walks and competitor welcome parties
We are delighted that the British Pony Championships will once again headlined by Project Pony. Building on our successful partnership of 2022/23, we will work with Project Pony to give the country’s top pony riding talent a fantastic experience while competing at the British Pony Championship, the pinnacle of pony eventing in the British equestrian calendar.
British Pony Championships – CCI2*P
The British Pony Championships is run as a true FEI CCI Pony International, over a new cross country course built at the 105cm level.
The British Pony Championships is a key trial for those wishing to be considered for selection to the British Eventing Squad for the Pony Europeans.
Explaining their involvement with Belsay, Project Pony commented: “Project Pony was born from the love of this thrilling and exhilarating sport and the desire to give a little back by opening the door to young, determined athletes with a realistic ambition of riding at the top level and that would most benefit from the support that Project Pony can offer.”
Belsay International Horse Trials Event Director Laura de Wesselow said: “This is another very exciting year for us. We share a vision of supporting and promoting young talent in the sport of eventing, making us the perfect partners to ensure that the British Pony Championship is the success it deserves to be.”
A look back at 2023
Belsay has run a long format British Pony Championships competition at for the last three years to help Pony Riders qualify for the Europeans. This is key trial for those wishing to be considered for selection to the British Pony Squad competing at the European Championships.
BARAMONA LASS RETURNS HOME TO BE CROWNED BRITISH NATIONAL PONY CHAMPION
It was a fairytale ending for Belsay organisers the de Wesselow family to see the pony that daughter Xanthe had produced and competed as part of Team GB at the 2019 European Pony Championships in Strzegom return home to win the British Pony Championship sponsored by Project Pony on a final score of 33.2.
Beautifully ridden by her new jockey Jessica McCaldin, Baramona Lass (known as Suzie) cruised around Adrian Ditcham’s clever and testing cross country track and came out on the final day to hold her lead with a beautiful clear around Lisa Kelly’s fantastic Show Jumping course. Glencarrig Dolpin now ridden by Elizabeth Jelfs came second on a score of 37 with Midnight Mist III on 42.7.
