Young Horse Performance Classes
(Example schedule from 2024, 2025 schedule available early Spring)
YOUNG EVENT HORSE CLASSES:- Class A starts at 9am – Class B will follow straight on after. Course open to walk at 8.15am. There will be a course walk before Class B. Pre entries only. Times will be available on the Northern Equine Event Facebook page at least 2 days prior to the day of Competition.
Class A 80cm Young Horse Performance Class for four year olds
Freestyle Dressage test in the arena of no more than 2 mins 30 seconds prior to the
jumping phase.
SJ Fences not exceeding 80cm (some XC fences may be smaller)
Speed SJ 325 mpm XC 350mpm

Class B 90cm Young Horse Performance Class for five year olds
Freestyle Dressage test in the arena of no more than 2 mins 30 seconds prior to the jumping phase.
SJ Fences not exceeding 90cm (some XC fences may be smaller)
Speed SJ 325 mpm XC 350 mpm

The two Young Horse Performance Classes are unaffiliated but are designed to help prepare young 4 and 5 year old horses for future competition.
Each horse will be required to show a series of movements in a freestyle dressage test, lasting no more than 2 mins 30 seconds prior to the jumping phase. This should include medium walk, working trot on left and right rein, some lengthened strides at trot, working canter on left and right rein (incorporating a 20m circle), and a halt. Competitors should then proceed direct to the jumping phase. After jumping please show a gallop and then leave the arena at free walk on a long rein.
The jumping test will consist of 7-8 show jumps including related distances, followed immediately by 7-8 cross country fences. 2 penalties will be deducted for a fence down and 4 penalties for a refusal. Elimination after three refusals, accumulated or otherwise and/or a fall.
Fence Heights: Class 2: 80 cm for 4 year olds; Class 3: 90cm for 5 year olds
Judging:
Judged out of 50, marks will be given as follows:
20 – Paces (5 – walk, 5 – trot, 5 – canter, 5 – gallop)
10 – Show Jumping
10 – Cross Country
10 – Suitability
Arena Eventing

SJ part not timed, XC part nearest Optimum Time. No stop watches please. The course will consist of 6/7 SJ fences followed by 6/7 XC simulated Doodle Jumps. It will all be one course and will be numbered accordingly! Full rules can be found on the schedule attached.
Class 1. 60cm Arena Eventing
Fences not exceeding 60cm. XC speed 320mpm
Class 2. 70cm Arena Eventing
Fences not exceeding 70cm. XC speed 340mpm
Class 3. 80cm Arena Eventing
Fences not exceeding 80cm. XC Speed 360mpm
Class 4. 90cm Arena Eventing
Fences not exceeding 90cm. XC Speed 375mpm
Class 5. 100cm Arena Eventing
Fences not exceeding 100cm. Xc Speed 400mpm
