SUN SHINES ON BELSAY

A GREAT WEEKEND OF FAMILY FUN AS EVENT CELEBRATES 5TH ANNIVERSARY

Beautiful weather ensured that Belsay Horse Trials celebrated its 5th anniversary with a fantastic weekend of sporting entertainment and family fun.  With good crowds, full entries,  an enviable roster of sponsors, plus a great selection of trade stands the event keeps getting bigger and better.  Alongside headliner Barbour, and premium sponsors Stratstone, Bond Dickinson and Ryecroft Glenton, there were a host of local companies supporting the trials, which has now become a leading social and sporting fixture in the North-East calendar.

New sponsors for 2017 included Bushbuck Safaris, Foster Maddison Estate Agents, Le Petit Chateau Hotel (Otterburn), Savage Silk law firm, Charles Nicholson Wealth Management, Replica Landscapes, Patricia Arnold & Co chartered accountants, Simply Bows and Chaircovers, Vardags solicitors, Emma Lawrence Equine Dentist, Catch Seafood Restaurant, Gloucester Lodge, Proudlock’s Livestock Haulage and Peter Gilbertson & Daughters Haulage.

Course designer Adrian Ditcham and new course builder Rob McSkimming created some exciting new fences for this year’s event including the new Barbour Wax fence, while the re-designed the water complex, now called the Stratstone Super Splash, featured Land Rovers and a new fence in the water.

To celebrate its 5th Birthday, Belsay commissioned two exciting aerial films of the course, which were created using drones by two new local companies, Daedalus Drones based in Newcastle and Crack the Sky Productions, based at Low Angerton Morpeth.  The films have been released via social media.

Belsay has become well known as one of the most competitor friendly events in the region and organisers Peter and Laura de Wesselow once again pulled out all the stops to keep the riders happy. The Land Rover shuttle service from the lorry park to the show field was a great success, as was the special raffle for riders, which featured a host of prizes from Belsay’s Official Trade Suppliers: Equine Products, Frickers Formula Feeds, Belvoir Rugs, Laland & Bo Jewellers, North East Equine Dentistry, Houghton Country Store and Finest Properties.

The Corporate Hospitality Tent was once again full on both days where the party atmosphere continued until the evening. A charity raffle on both days raised £2,450 to be split between Morpeth Riding for the Disabled and Willberry the Wonderpony Children’s Cancer Charity.

Entries were full and Belsay was delighted to welcome a host of well known local and international riders. Nicola Wilson brought a lorry load of horses to compete on both days and enjoyed great success on Saturday and Sunday.  On Saturday she won the Novice Regional Final, Section G sponsored by Ryecroft Glenton, with JL Dublin and was 3rd in the Brewin Dolphin Novice Section I on Cooley Conker.  On Sunday, Nicola won the Rural Solutions BE100 Section O on Chabadu and the Bond Dickinson Novice Section Q on Elite Jaguar, where she also picked up 4th on Drumnaconnell Toto Wolff.  Nicola also recorded a 4th in the Lycetts Intermediate Novice Section H on Saturday with Erano M.
